On September 11, 2001, about 3,000 people were killed in the terrorist attacks on the United States. In New York City, seven buildings in the World Trade Center were destroyed, including Three World Trade Center, the Marriott World Trade Center hotel that connected the North and South Towers. Joyce Ng’s Hotel 9/11: An Oral History from Survivors of 3 World Trade Center is the only book that chronicles the stories of the people who escaped from the Marriott World Trade Center hotel, nestled in between the twin towers and was destoryed. Nearly 1,000 guests were registered at the hotel on September 11. Many stories that took place in the hotel are still unknown, but they provide significant insight into the history of 9/11. The author, Joyce Ng is a survivor of the 9/11 attacks. On September 11, she was a guest at the Marriott World Trade Center hotel. At a young age, she witnessed a major event that forever changed her life. On 9/11, when the first plane crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, she was in her room in the Marriott. The plane's landing gear fell onto the roof of the building, and the hotel caught on fire. While the hotel was burning, debris was falling around the area, and she witnessed people getting killed or injured. Since then, Joyce founded a non-profit charity to unite survivors from this building. In the forefront of the 9/11 community, she serves as the voice of 9/11 survivors nationwide, bringing awareness to the physical and emotional trauma endured by those who survived the attacks. Her first book, "Hotel 9/11" is in two Presidential Libraries. It was recognized by President Obama as a book of historical significance. She speaks around the country to advocate for the 9/11 community. All proceeds from the sale of this book go to the non-profit 501(c)(3) charity September 11 Survivors of Three World Trade Center “Within these pages you will read some of these types of stories from the survivors of the World Trade Center Marriott Hotel. Directly from the people who lived through the attacks, you will read remarkable accounts of hotel guests persevering through unfamiliar surroundings in the midst of immense terror and confusion, hotel employees helping to evacuate guests, firefighters responding to guide civilians through the danger. The survivors who share their stories here, and the thousands of others who escaped that day, provide crucial insight into the events of 9/11. Through them, we know of the bravery of the first responders, the professionalism of employees, and the compassion shown by perfect strangers. Through them, we know the story of 9/11 is more than just the story of terror and destruction that gripped the world’s attention. Through them, we know the actions taken in response to the attacks exhibit the best we have to offer one another, even in the very worst circumstances. And that is a history worth preserving.” Joe Daniels President and CEO National September 11 Memorial & Museum Read more
